My son is fairly fussy – but if I put him in the infant insert and walk around he stops crying. I’m not afraid to go out to the store anymore because I know that I can just put him in the insert and he’ll calm down when we walk around. He often falls asleep in it. I also use it at home during the day so that I have my hands free – since he can’t hold up his neck on his own yet. It was a little warm – but when we are at home I just leave him in his onesie and I wear a light cotton shirt. I haven’t tried breast feeding with it – so can’t comment on that. Great product for anyone that wants their hands free and has a fussy baby who wants to be held all the time. Also, ergobaby has a great website with videos on how to use the insert – this will make sure you position the baby correctly.

I was hoping this would be an improvement over the former infant insert. It is – but it’s still not really a great solution for carrying a small infant. My son is 3.5 months old now and still does not like the insert. He likes his Moby and his Hotsling OK, but he will only ride in the Ergo if he’s very, very sleepy and we jiggle him around til he sleeps. The moment he wakes up he wants to be out of it, and he especially hates the “putting on” process.
I have just resigned myself to accepting that Ergo is probably great for an older baby/toddler (I will update my post then and let you know!) I think other carriers are much better for newborns and young babies. As with so many baby product-related things, we are starting to accept that there are not many “do-it-all” solutions and we have to get more than one stroller, more than one sleeping place, more than one carrier, etc.

I have struggled with this carrier for four weeks now. I have been trying to use the carrier with the heart 2 heart insert since my daughter was born. My first problem is when I put my daughter in the insert and then the carrier, the carrier does not fit well. The carrier only comes up about half way on the insert so the head support is extremely lacking. I even tried using the insert in the cradle position without much success.
I’ve watched the videos available on how to correctly position both the carrier and the insert and still I’m not successful. I’m very disappointed because I had planned on using this carrier with my infant daughter. I hope that the carrier will be useful by 4-6 months of age. Right now, I feel that I have wasted my money on both the carrier and the insert and wish I could return it and buy something else.
I strongly suggest trying this carrier before you buy it to ensure that it is a good fit for both you and your baby.

I tried using both a Snugli and Bjorn and my son cried when I put him in them. The Ergo was highly recommended and I bought the original infant insert since it was the only type of infant insert in the store. My son hated it and seemed too big for it although he was only 3 mths old. I ordered the Heart to Heart and it has been great. My son is very happy in the Ergo and loves to look around or take a nap. I also bought the Ergo sucking pads but my son sucks happily on the side of the infant insert so we don’t need them right now.

I already had an Ergo carrier that I bought when my older son was about 4 months old, but I bought the insert to use with my newborn son. It’s very secure and he loves it. Falls asleep instantly. I love my carrier and this insert helps make the earliest days a bit easier!
