This game has really held my attention. Its the type of game that gets you hooked but you can go back to it. I’ve been playing it for a couple of months now off and on (would play more but my husband would kill me!). It pretty challenging and I’ve even had to look up a few walk-throughs to get through a couple of levels. Overall, this is a fantastic game.

This game has the perfect balance of strategy and action for me. There is always enough going on to keep things interesting, yet you still find time to enjoy building your towns. I like that the player has the option of choosing a female character for the role of hero and/or sheriff. The game also has a sense of humor. Very addicting. Can’t stop playing!

I’ve been playing the Westward games since the first one came out and they are by far my favorite computer games. Westward IV is the best one yet! I really can’t say anything bad about any of them, just that they keep getting better. The only problem I have with Westward is that I have a hard time shutting it down for the night. It is very addictive. You get to create your own settlement and start building up your town with new buildings and inviting new settlers to your town. You have to keep everyone happy or they will move out of your town. You also have to watch out for the Bandits. They show up all over the place and try to shoot up your town. In Westward IV you have one main “town” that you will keep coming back to. Throughout the game you will travel to other little towns and help the citizens out with whatever problem they are having in exchange for running your railroad through thier town. One of my favorite little extras with both Westward 3 and Westward 4 is the Market Place Challenge. You are given 3 or 4 minutes to fill orders for the market clerk. Each level gets a little harder, but with each level you get bigger rewards. The most important reward is “Experience”. You have to have certain amounts of experience to purchase the rights to new buildings you can build in your town. Can’t say enough great things about this game. To me it’s an A+.

I wanted to like this game. I expected to like this game. I did like this game – for the first two hours I played it – and then it crashed.
I checked the computer requirements. My computer more than meet them. “Well,” I thought. “These things happen sometimes.”
I tried it again. Two hours into the game, at about the same level of game build up; twenty citizens, hiring a sheriff, etc. – it crashed again.
This time though I had been saving often. I rebooted my machine, restarted the game and tried to reload my saved game – nothing! It just hung there for fifteen minutes. Finally I had to go into Task Manager and cancel the program.
I want my money back.
UPDATE: After five days, I finally got an answer from Sandlot the publisher of the game. I had a driver that needed updating. After that was fixed, the game played beautifully UNTIL I HIT THE 45 CITIZEN CAP!!! That took about three hours of game play.
Another major criticism of this game is the need to micro-manage everything. You have to constantly run around repairing everything and replanting trees. How much smoother game play would have been if I could have assigned a citizen to these chores.
Anyway, for the slow support (five day response time), 45 citizen cap, and forced micro-management I still give the game one star.

I bought this game via download and played it for a few sessions. It seems to have gotten great reviews but I don’t see the charm, interest or fun in this game at all. It seems to me to be tedious and slow, with nothing to hold my interest. The graphics aren’t very impressive, very cartoon-like, and the interface isn’t intuitive or easy to use. I dislike this game to the point where I plan to delete it tonight, I don’t even want to waste the space on my disk that it takes up. Sorry if this seems harsh, I don’t like giving bad reviews but I really don’t think this is a good game.
